Lakme Fashion Week’s Gen Next committee has selected four up-and-coming designers to showcase collections at its upcoming summer/resort 2020 edition in February, as the program enters its 29th edition.
This February, Graine by Mannat Sethi and Harshna Kandhari; Chandrima by Chandrima Agnihotri; AKHL by Akhil Nagpal; and All2Defy by Ananya Modi Jain will make their debuts at Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai, the fashion week announced on Facebook.
The four emerging brands were chosen by the Gen Next committee from over 300 applicants, and will show collections on the runway during Lakme Fashion Week, Vogue India reported.
Akhil Nagpal launched AKHL by Akhil Nagpal after graduating from Central Saint Martins fashion school in London, UK. The brand specialises in using unique textiles such as surplus fishing nets, latex, and industrial glass yarn and creates 1920s-inspired gowns and sarees.
Graine, helmed by Mannat Sethi and Harshna Kandhari, will showcase a collection at Lakme Fashion Week after already making its international debut at Helsinki Fashion Week in Finland, where the brand won the event’s 2019 Sustainable Design Award. The sister design-duo will present a collection titled 'Kaju Katli', which is made from recycled materials including discarded rubber tyres.
Chandrima Agnihotri launched Chandrima by Chandrima Agnihotri, following experience working with luxury brands, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and Rohit Bal. The designer specialises in embroidery and chose to explore the traditional art of cross-stitch embroidery created by the Jat community in Kutch, Gujarat for her maiden collection.
All2Defy by Ananya Modi Jain launched in 2018 and is a modern, refined take on streetwear. The brand’s upcoming collection will feature bold slogans, loose, androgynous separates, and reversible garments.
