Although mandatory social distancing regulations have been largely relaxed, online fashion events are still proving an innovative and safe way for designers to showcase new collections and drive sales. Lakmé Fashion Week has thus announced a new initiative in partnership with longterm sponsor Nexa to present couture in an interactive way.

Lakmé Fashion Week’s new initiative, which will announce dates and further details soon, will feature designers Amit Aggarwal, Abraham Thakore, Payal Singhal, Huemn, Kanika Goyal, and Ridhi Mehra. “This futuristic concept marks the next step in consumer dressing and purchase,” said IMG Reliance’s head of lifestyle businesses Jaspreet Chandok, Vogue India reported.

Designs by the participating brands will be showcased online as 3D renderings which people will be able to zoom in to view fine details and try on virtually. The pieces will be presented on a model avatar and will also be available for online purchase.

Lakmé Fashion Week held its first ever digital edition in Autumn featuring an array of fashion films and online showcases. The biannual event would have its upcoming edition in Spring but, due to the unpredictable nature of the pandemic, it is currently unclear which form the event will take.
