Lakmé Fashion Week launches 'The Platform'

Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW) has launched "The Platform" in collaboration with Smartwater which, as a progression from LFW’s Gen Next programme, will search for the next upcoming Indian fashion designer.

The Platform is a designer search programme by LFW in collaboration with the US-based water brand Smartwater. LFW announced the programme on its social media on June 18 and stated that it is: “a program that spotlights new ideas and designers at Lakme Fashion Week. This means exploring unexpected avenues of fashion and being open to redefining the industry. We are looking for young designers in the industry to be part of this program.”

The programme will select a number of designers who will make creations based on the theme “Inspired by the Clouds”.

The winning collections or collections will be chosen and the respective designer(s) will receive mentoring from a group of industry professionals. Following that, the designer(s) will have the opportunity to showcase their work at the upcoming season of LFW that will begin on August 22 in Mumbai.

LFW said in a statement that the winning designers will be “unconventional, innovative and fearless."

The aim is to shine the spotlight on alternative fashion and uplift young designers.
