KVIC's e-commerce platform revenue crosses Rs 1 crore
The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) e-commerce platform has generated revenue of over Rs 1 crore ($135,876) in less than a year of its launch.
KVIC’s online store was launched on 7 July 2020 and till date delivered orders to over 10,000 customers. The e-portal had over 65,000 visitors during the first eight months. KVIC has also delivered more than 1 lakh articles/commodities to these customers.
Going forward, KVIC plans to strengthen its online presence and aims to achieve sales of over Rs 200 crore per year with a focus on e-marketing.
“All expenses incurred on operating Khadi e-portal are borne by KVIC. While in the case of other e-commerce sites, product cataloguing, packaging and dispatch are the responsibility of the respective sellers; KVIC has a policy that the Khadi institutions and PMEGP units are exempted from any such financial and logistical burden. Khadi's e-portal is a unique platform for lakhs of Khadi artisans,” KVIC chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena said in a statement.
KVIC had recently strengthened its e-commerce platform with the addition of new product categories. Since the launch of its website, KVIC claims to have received online orders from 31 states and Union Territories. The online portal has been developed in-house by KVIC.
