The fashion show titled ‘Aheli Khadi’ showcased the use of the khadi fabric for traditional and contemporary clothes.

Six diverse collections of clothing and sarees, including ethnic, fusion, western, and casual styles, were created by NIFT designers.

Home linen collections were also created using Khadi fabrics in a variety of weights and weaves to position khadi as a global brand.

Commenting on the initiative, Manoj Goel, chairman of KVIC in a statement said, “We are working on taking Khadi worldwide. KVIC wants to encourage the use of khadi as an environmentally sustainable fabric to replace non-biodegradable unsustainable products in the home and garment sectors. Its goal is to promote and pitch khadi at a relatable, high design level.”

The fashion show was attended by prominent designers, professionals of the fashion business, students, and khadi organisations.

KVIC is a statutory body incorporated under the Parliament Act with the aim to develop Khadi and other village industries in rural areas. It had witnessed a 20% growth in revenue of Rs 1.15 lakh crore ($1.5 billion) for the financial year 2021-22, as compared to Rs 95,741 from the previous year.
