Kulsum Shadab Wahab and Dhruv Kapoor win Fashion Hub Market prize in Milan
Indian designer Kulsum Shadab Wahab, the head of Ara Lumiere, won the first prize at the international Fashion Hub Market in Milan and Dhruv Kapoor won second place.
As part of the recently concluded Milan Fashion Week, Camera Moda della Moda Italiana (the Italian Fashion Council) and Italian non-profit buyers chamber The Best Shops presented the Camera Buyer Prize. The award is designed to propel up-and-coming brands into the European spotlight by giving them access to 'The Best Shops’ network of 107 members and 450 fashion concept stores in Italy.
The Ara Lumiere’s Kulsum Shadab Wahab won first place and Dhruv Kapoor came in second giving India the top two spots in a final that comprised 12 brands from countries including China, France, Ukraine, and Romania.
The winner Shadab Wahab runs the brand Ara Lumiere with the Hothur Foundation. The brand produces head scarves made by acid attack survivors in India. Part of the brand’s profits are also put towards supporting acid attack survivors.
“With this win we will be able to stock at all the best shops in Italy,” Shadab Wahab told Vogue India. “This is huge for a label like ours and it can’t get much bigger than this. This kind of visibility and acceptability in society for our acid attack survivors is important and it is so great that they got an international platform.”
The second place winner was Dhruv Kapoor who designs for his eponymous label. “[The prize] has come at the perfect time; just when we are strategising our expansion into the EU,” Kapoor told Vogue India.
“Considering that Italy is a major fashion capital, it is good PR for the brand and great business and visibility… and shall definitely help us grow at a much faster rate.”
