Kolkata malls embrace Black Friday, footfalls surge
Nov 30, 2022
The Black Friday shopping event has boosted footfalls in malls in Kolkata and revived sales after the traditional post-Diwali slump, especially in the fashion and beauty categories.

Malls in Kolkata including Acropolis Mall, City Centre 1 and 2, and Quest Mall have run large scale Black Friday sale events which has resulted in a boost to mall traffic and sales, ET Bureau reported. Numerous malls have put on simultaneous food festivals or other interactive events to encourage people to visit.
“We can leverage this event to kickstart the winter shopping spree that will continue to the New Year,” said Acropolis Mall’s general manager K Vijayan as the mall’s sale continued on, TNN reported. “While skincare, colour cosmetics, and apparel are doing very well, we are expecting to clock good numbers in all categories by the time the event wraps up.”
The month of November is traditionally a slow one for malls as it follows the Diwali festive season when many stores have sales and many shoppers stock up on gifts, occasion wear, and jewellery. By creating a buzz around Black Friday, malls in metros across India are getting a sales boost in the formally lean month of November.
This Black Friday is also the first in several years which is not under the shadow of the pandemic. As malls face no retail restrictions, shoppers also feel more confident to gather in crowds once again.
