Kerala-based garment major Kitex Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Telangana state government for setting up two mega projects with a total investment of Rs 2,400 crore ($326 million).

The two manufacturing units will come up in the Warangal and Ranga Reddy districts. The investment is expected to create employment for around 22,000 people in the state.
Commenting on the investment, Kitex managing director Sabu Jacob in a statement said: “We intend to support the state in achieving its vision of developing a world-class ecosystem in textile and apparel manufacturing in Telangana with a focus on creating many jobs.”
“In addition, we will also support the state in improving the quality of cotton cultivated here by promoting and encouraging use of better and mechanised technology from land development, cultivation, harvesting, ginning, and storage of cotton thereby helping Telangana farmers realise fair prices of cotton,” he added.
The investment in Telangana comes a few months after Kitex decided to withdraw its investment planned in the home state of Kerala citing harassment by politicians and government officials.
Kitex Garments is one of the leading manufacturers of kid’s apparel and engages in contract manufacturing for private labels such as Jockey, Carter, Babies R Us, Gerber, and Mothercare among others.
