The new Khadi Mall was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar on November 5. The mall will be maintained by the Bihar Khadi and Village Industries Board, KVIC wrote on Facebook.

The mall represents a wider initiative of the Union Government to promote Khadi textiles and handcraft products in order to increase domestic production which should lead to a decrease in imports. Increasing handloom textile production is also designed to increase employment opportunities and promote sustainable fashion as Khadi is eco-friendly compared to machine and synthetic fibre textiles.

KVIC is expanding distribution for the Khadi India brand across India. Khadi India recently launched its products at the Statue of Unity in Nandod, Gujarat. KVIC’s chairman VK Saxena recently inaugurated the Khadi Mall Ekta Bhawan in Kevadia which now retails a range of Khadi India personal care items.

KVIC was founded by the Government of India in Mumbai under the Khadi and Village Industries Act in 1956.  The organisation has six zonal offices as well as regional offices in 29 states.
