March 16 - Ailing British retailer JJB Sports on Wednesday won the support of one of its biggest landlords for a restructuring plan under which it would close some stores to stay in business.

Real estate and transport group Peel Holdings said JJB's rescue strategy was "by far the most attractive" option.

"The only likely alternative would be administration for JJB Sports, which would result in a significant loss for all landlords," Peel chairman John Whittaker said in a statement.

"JJB's restructuring proposals involve all its key stakeholders joining forces to ensure its survival and we are prepared to play our part."

JJB's landlords must back the plan at a March 22 vote in order for it to proceed.
