Metro has just promoted Olivier Van den Bossche to be the head of its department stores. Until now, the 38-year-old was the manager of the Belgian subsidiary in charge of the 15 Galeria Inno stores in Belgium.

In his new role, he succeeds Lovro Mandac, who held the position for nearly twenty years and who, at 62, will now be taking on the role of chairman of the Galeria Kaufhof board.

To assist Olivier Van den Bossche, the department store division of major retailer Metro has named Edo Beukema to the board of directors in charge of purchasing, a position he held at Dutch department store chain Bijenkorf.

In Germany, he succeeds Thomas Storck, who becomes CIO of the Metro Cash and Carry chain, a newly created job to bring this division to the digital age. Finally, it is Volker Schlinge, who until now was in charge of marketing, who succeeds Ulrich Köster as human resources manager.

In Belgium, Rami Al Assouad, chief buying officer and managing director becomes Galeria Inno's executive committee's speaker. Laurence Willems joins this committee and will lead the HR, social relations and legal departments as Chief HR Officer. Tom Van Hese becomes head of sales and a member of the executive committee, and Arnaud Moerenhout, chief financial officer and managing director, retains his roles.

Galeria Kaufhof has a network of 122 stores outside of Germany, including 17 specialised in sport, and 15 in Belgium, where a 16th is scheduled to open in Hasselt in November.

Over the first nine months of the current financial year which began on 1st October, Galeria Kaufhof saws its turnover rise slightly to 2.4 billion euros, 2.2 billion of which were generated in Germany.
