Karkhana Chronicles II to launch digital exhibition with The ReFashion Hub

Online textile exhibition Karkhana Chronicles II will launch on Saturday, with support from sustainable initiative The ReFashion Hub, to showcase and promote heritage textiles. 

 
The exhibition will use a mix of photos and videos to display a wide range of traditional textiles on its dedicated website. Karkhana Chronicles aims to showcase how heritage craft techniques have long championed sustainable manufacturing processes, the event announced in a press release. 
 
“Karkhana Chronicles II seeks to highlight heritage textile art that is not limited to its positive impact on the environment but also the exceptional quality and exclusivity in design that comes along with these textiles,” saidKarkhana Chronicles’ creative director, Akshita Bhanj Deo, in a press release.

“Concepts such as circularity that have come into contemporary discourse on sustainability are actually ideas that have organically existed within our traditional production systems for centuries. Through this exhibition we invite discerning audiences of makers and consumers to engage with this rich legacy of craftsmanship and explore the potential within these traditional knowledge systems to create sustainable futures.”
 
Along with The ReFashion Hub, the online exhibition is also supported by the royal families of Indore, Kathiwada, Bhavnagar, and Mysore. The exhibition will also have a special emphasis on water stewardship and the importance of reducing water waste, a major problem in the modern textile industry. 
 
The exhibition follows on from Karkhana Chronicles I, which launched in late 2020. As with its maiden exhibition, Karkhana II will feature panel discussions on textile techniques including a talk moderated by Mickey Boardman on April 25.
