Kappahl joins Canopy
KappAhl, the Swedish fast fashion brand that recently held a sustainable design contest, continues to focus on environmentally-friendly policies and has just joined Canopy.
Canopy is an international environmental organisation that works to preserve the world's ancient forests, climate and species. Through becoming a member, KappAhl continues its dedicated sustainability efforts by helping eliminate the use of cellulose-based fibers from endangered forests around the world.
“Our involvement in Canopy is part of our ambition to use only cellulose-based fibers from sustainable forestry”, explains Eva Kindgren de Boer, KappAhl's sustainability manager Production. “It also contributes to our ambitions to continuously increase the proportion of sustainable materials in our range.”
KappAhl's aim now is to ensure that all viscose, lyocell, modal and other cellulosic fibers solely come from suppliers approved by Canopy. It expects to fully implement the task by 2017. According to Canopy, 1/3 of all the cellulose fiber in the world today comes from endangered forests that are important for climate and biodiversity.
British fast fashion retailer group Arcadia also joined Canopy late last year, as did Lindex and C&A China. Other members include H&M, Inditex, Stella McCartney, Eileen Fisher and Marks & Spencer.
