Kankatala Sarees launches first fusion wear line

Kankatala Sarees has launched its first line of lehengas for 78 years for its first fusion wear collection. The new line features twenty-five lehengas, all hand woven in real gold zari.

Each lehenga, choli, and dupatta set celebrates handlooms from weaving clusters across India including Paithani, Kanchipuram, and Bandhani among others, the brand announced in a press release in January 7. The collection is priced between Rs 1.5 lakh ($2,018) and Rs 6 lakh.
 
The line will first launch with an exclusive display at the brand’s ‘Queens of Kankatala’ store in New Delhi from January 10 to 11.The collection will then launch at Kankatala Sarees’ stores Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and New Delhi as well as on its dedicated e-commerce store. 

“The edition is an artistic expression of Indian weavers where the diversity of India's rich culture is celebrated harmoniously,” the brand announced in a statement. “The amalgamation of three unique handloom techniques from three different states blends into a wearable wonder to form an uncommon phenomenon.”
 
Kankatala Appalaraju established Kankatala Sarees in 1943 and the brand now has 13 brick-and-mortar stores. Now a third generation brand, three brothers of the Kankatala family manage the business and the brand aims to mix contemporary saree styles with traditional craftsmanship.
