Kanika Goyal showcases latest collection in New York

Kanika Goyal presented spring/ summer 2023 collection ‘Starseed’ at Hudson Yard’s Location05 event space as part of New York Fashion Week, US. The Indian designer used the womenswear collection as a springboard from which to explore the idea of feeling of comfort in one’s own skin, the brand announced on Instagram. 

“The collection is definitely more sexy than romantic or feminine,” Goyal told Vogue India about the collection. “For summer, we wanted to explore the idea of being unapologetically comfortable in your own skin, and we did this with revealing details.”
 
The collection plays with cut-outs to reveal different parts of the body while retailing Goyal’s signature retro aesthetic. Bright colours, cartoonish prints, and 3D embellishments make for a collection which is both bold and versatile. 

“We are constantly experimenting with denim,” said Goyal. “This time, you’ll see a lot of shredded, linear denim pants. It’s more fluid, as technically speaking, we’ve used lighter ounces of denim that flow as you move. 30% of the collection is made from upcycled denim and repurposed fabric scraps woven on handloom.”
 
Goyal made her debut at New York Fashion Week earlier this year with autumn/ winter 2022 collection ‘Sci Trance’. The designer also showcased a menswear collection in Paris earlier this summer in June. Kanika Goyal retails in India from multi-brand luxury boutiques including Ensemble and Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop.
