Kanika Goyal Label collaborates with Simba Beer at Lakme Fashion Week
Designer Kanika Goyal presented a men’s and womenswear collection at Lakme Fashion Week in collaboration with Simba Beer. Goyal’s smart take on streetwear mixed prints, textures, and eras for the winter/ festive season.
This season, Goyal mixed suits with streetwear and tailored jackets walked the runway alongside hoodies and cocktail dresses. The collection featured a signature print that resembled a traditional check from afar but, upon closer inspection, more resembled a 1980s Cubist painting. With a clashing colour palette of lemon yellow, beige, grey, and red, the collection evoked a feeling of retro-modernism.
Models were styled simply with centre-parted hair and a subtle cat-eye for the women. A cylinder-shaped handbag also made multiple appearances on the runway in a variety of textiles, hanging from a thick plastic hoop or worn on a belt. Other notable garments included a raw denim top, loose, cropped trousers for both men and women, and trousers with contrast-inserts.
Kanika Goyal launched her eponymous label in October 2014 and is based in New Delhi’s Defence Colony. The brand, known for its brightly coloured take on minimalism, retails from a dedicated e-commerce store and has taken part in a number of international pop-ups including in the UK.
Lakme Fashion Week ran from August 21 to 25 at the St Regis in Mumbai. For its 20th birthday edition, the fashion week counted Lakme, IMG Reliance, and Nexa as its main sponsors.
