The London-based Indian textile designer Kangan Arora has created a range of colourful and graphic textiles and homeware items for the Swedish brand Ikea. The collection, which has now launched globally, features fabric by the metre, rugs, bedding, soft furnishings, dinnerware, trays, and napkins.

“My dream is to bring the joy and vitality of Indian textiles into every home and every living room,” Arora told Elle India. “So for me, Ikea is the perfect collaboration… I built a library of basics — stripes, dots, squiggles and grids — and used these to explore pattern through geometry, layering and overlapping using screen-printing, or, what I like to call ‘sketching with screens’.”

Arora was inspired by Ikea’s own museum and its “Textile Playground” archives. With a 50-year history in textiles, Ikea’s past gave Arora direction for the collection along with the work of other artists such as Ellsworth Kelly, Donald Judd, and Carmen Herrera

Arora also runs her eponymous brand from London where she focuses on Indian textiles and prints for her own range of homeware and fabrics.
