Womenswear brand Kanelle has launched a new sustainable line of clothing, made from recycled textile scrap, named ‘Scrap to Rack’.

Kanelle’s new recycled womenswear line recently launched on its dedicated e-commerce store, the brand announced on its Facebook page. The clothing line features patchwork garments, made from textiles left over from previous collections for a zero-waste approach.

Garments including loose dresses, shirts, and tops feature abstract patterns created by mixing together textile scraps. Ruffles, textile panels, and borders are also used to mix the diverse variety of textile scraps together. The limited edition collection retails from Rs 3,500 ($48) to Rs 8,500.

Kanelle describes the line as: “A recycled collection designed with limited resources,” on its Facebook page.

As the pan-India lockdown put a spanner in the works for many Indian clothing brands, labels including Kanelle have used the challenging economic circumstances as motivation to innovate new ways of design and production.

The pandemic has also led to various government and brand campaigns urging Indians to shop locally and embrace sustainability including the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign.

For brands that have long promoted eco-friendly, Indian-made fashion like Kanelle, this represents a chance to reach a wider customer base.
