Three brands -- Kanelle, Anurag Gupta, and Abhishek Sharma -- presented a joint showcase titled ‘Impressions’ on day one of Lakmé Fashion Week, on February 12, with an ethereal, androgynous aesthetic.

Womenswear brand Kanelle presented a relaxed and whimsical collection, featuring loose silhouettes, floral embroidery, and sheer scarves. Mixed-print dresses added a rustic appeal and printed cotton with sheer overlays presented a modern yet nostalgic feel.

Sarees also featured in lemon yellow with bold, black florals and in more neutral hues for a romantic touch. The collection was highly wearable but made a strong statement for an intellectual, poetic take on womenswear.

Anurag Gupta’s summer/resort collection for both men and women mixed denim with white cotton and explored western wear-style tailoring, sportswear, and natural textiles. Men’s tailored suits and women’s fusion-style kurtas in soft denim had a casual yet statement effect and all-white ensembles looked conceptual yet wearable.

Embroidery, oversized pockets, and piping added details to the rather simple tailored garments. Notable items included a soft denim woman’s overcoat and a men’s kurta-esque top with a sporty zip and pockets.

Abhishek Sharma’s collection had an aquatic colour palette and delicate textile appliqués and embroidery. Denim also made an appearance with frayed and distressed details mimicking delicate lace that also featured and added femininity to high-waisted jeans and vests.

Men wore embellished denim coats, ripped t-shirts, and sneakers with an androgynous aesthetic highlighted by eyeshadow and highlight. Hair was disheveled and the whole collection had a fairy-like quality.

Lakmé Fashion Week began on February 12 and runs until February 16 at JioWorld Garden in Mumbai. The event celebrates its 20th anniversary this season.
