The corporate responsibility wing of the building materials solutions company Kamdhenu Limited, Kamdhenu Jeevandhara, conducted a Tailor Training Programme for women and girls and concluded the initiative by distributing free sewing machines.
The Kamdhenu Jeevandhara programme was held at the business’ Tailoring Training Centre in Gurgaon where a group of women were trained in tailoring with the aim of giving them economic independence. As the government continues to promote increased domestic production of garments among other products, this initiative supports the 'Make in India' initiative and Kamdhenu Limited’s own commitment to the industry.
“Women’s economic empowerment is a pre-requisite for inclusive and equitable economic growth,” said Kamdhenu Jeevandhara’s chairperson Radha Agarwal at the event, according to the business’ press release. “At Kamdhenu Jeevandhara, we take pride in organising free skill development programmes to make a difference in the lives of those in need.”
Other objectives of the programme include eliminating child labour by allowing women to earn a living wage for their work. The women who passed the tailoring programme were presented with sewing machines to help them begin their careers as tailors.
Kamdhenu Group, which was founded in 1994, has undertaken a number of social projects through its 'Green India' drive and is also working to help the environment and disabled persons.
