Chawla invited Valli to a party to celebrate his eponymous brand in India. The event also welcomed Indian celebrities Huma Qureshi, Varun Bahl, Rohit Gandhi, Rahul Khanna, Deepa Sama, Chetan Seth, and Shagun and Arvind Khanna, among others.

“It was an intimate dinner with close friends at home for Giambatitta Valli before the weather turned treacherous in balmy Delhi,” Chawla told Vogue India about the eventing. “The girls came all excited to meet one of their favourite couturiers.”

As former country head of luxury brand Christian Dior, Chawla is no stranger to European luxury fashion and has worked to promote it in India. As more Indian designers open flagship stores overseas and more international brands flock to India, the links between India’s fashion industry and the rest of the world are growing stronger.

Giambattista Valli was born in Rome and worked at Fendi, Krizia, and Emanuel Ungaro before launching his anonymous label with a solo show in Paris in 2005. The designer does not currently have any stores in India.
