Through this initiative, the company will allow customers to purchase gold from two grams upwards, following which a gold ownership certificate will be sent to them on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, based on the customer recommended platforms.

Akshaya Tritiya is a Hindu festival and purchase of gold on this day is considered auspicious among people. It will be celebrated on April 26 this year.

Commenting on the initiative, Kalyan Jewellers chairman, T S Kalyanaraman, in a statement said: “This is the first time in decades we are in a state of lockdown during the Akshaya Tritiya period. This time around, owing to the lock-down, our social media channels are flooded with queries on purchase of gold. While we know that this temporary solution and Gold Ownership Certificate is no match for the real gold, we are happy that we will be able to keep the tradition going.”

India is currently under a complete lockdown from March 25, to prevent the spread of the virus in the country.
