Kalyan jewellers go to Kerala High Court to prevent spread of malicious campaign

Jewellery retailer Kalyan Jewellers has filed a petition in the Kerala High Court to prevent spread of an allegedly malicious campaign against it on social media. In the petition, Kalyan Jewellers has sought a court order for the withdrawal of all the malicious material from social media platforms.

The company in its petition has claimed to have already incurred tangible and intangible losses of more than Rs 500 crore (approx $73 million) due to the campaign.
In the petition reviewed by the Times of India, the jewellery group has stated that its business rivals is spreading false stories and forged electronic records depicting them as cheaters or defrauders with the help of some persons. Such videos have been uploaded on YouTube and links to these videos are being shared through Facebook, WhatsApp, and other social media sites, the petition filed through the legal firm M/s V Sethunath and Manoranjan VR said.

Kaylan’s petition has named Indian offices of YouTube and Facebook as opposite parties in the case, along with Sureshrao Sadasivam of Project Camp at Al-Abdali in North Kuwait, who is alleged to be the person responsible for uploading the fake videos.
Kalyan Jewellers is one of the country’s top jewellery firms with 90 stores in India and 32 in the Middle East countries like Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and the UAE. It posted sales revenue of Rs 10,500 in fiscal 2017-18.
