In its first phase, Kalyan Jewellers will open its select stores in Karnataka, Orissa, Assam, and Puducherry. The company has stated that it will be following the highest level of safety and precautionary measures across operational showrooms as per government guidelines.

The company had earlier started operations in the Middle East, with the reopening of nine showrooms in UAE and 3 showrooms in Qatar.

Commenting on business resumption, T S Kalyanaraman, chairman and managing director, at Kalyan Jewellers, in a statement said: “India, UAE, and Qatar are markets where the tradition of gold-buying is engrained as part of the culture. As the lockdown in these countries, coincided with the peak purchase/wedding season, we are expecting the pent up demand for gold to resume, once the lockdown is lifted and the markets open.”

“With these openings, we hope to begin operations across our networks and get back to normalcy in the short term in a step-by-step manner,” he added.

The Kerala-based jeweller currently has around 144 showrooms across India and plans to open all stores in a phased manner once lockdown restrictions are lifted over the next few weeks.
