Kaka Sumi to collaborate with Ivy & Kay, expand product line

The new brand Kaka Sumi is making waves in the footwear industry and will soon be expanding its product line and collaborating with the Goa-based brand, Ivy & Kay.

The footwear label Kaka Sumi, which currently produces a range of luxury heels and boots, has teamed up with the Goa-based fashion label Ivy & Kay to produce a capsule collection of clothing. Alongside venturing into clothing, the brand will also expand into lifestyle products and accessories in the near future, the founder told Elle India.

Sumi’s artistic footwear designs are sculptural and modern and he uses a range of unconventional materials such as Jute to create. “By the eighth grade, I had begun crafting shoes with paper, and by the tenth grade, I was a popular miniature shoe craftsman in school,” Sumi told Elle India about his initial interest in the industry. The designer takes an unconventional approach to this day and tests his handmade designs on friends before retailing them.

Speaking about his first collection, currently available, Sumi said: “This is my first ever line, which is titled, ‘Golden classics and forgotten tales’. It is full of evergreen styles, such as mules and strappy stilettos, which re-emerge with finer cuts and lines.”

Kaka Sumi launched his eponymous brand in 2017, spreading the word about his new venture after mass at his local church. The brand still has a limited social media presence but that is not stopping it to grow at a fast pace.
