Designer K.H. Radharaman has launched a new womenswear label ‘Alamelu’ featuring woven textiles and a global aesthetic.

Radharaman, who has spearheaded brands The House of Angadi and Advaya, has stepped into luxury women’s ready-to-wear with new launch, Alamelu. The label’s maiden collection, titled ‘Architexture’, takes its inspiration from both architecture and textiles and mixes structural silhouettes with rich, handloom fabrics.

Oversized tunics, metallic tailored trousers, double-breasted suits, and overcoats are fabricated from Ikat weaves.Radharaman’s global perspective shines through in his rendering of Houndstooth check, Uzbeki motifs, and polka-dots inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama in silk threads.

The season-less collection is designed to be dressed up or down and worn by women across the world, according to Radharaman.

“Although the idea of the label took form over a year ago, Alamelu was born out of The House of Angadi’s legacy in textiles that goes back over 600 years,” Radharaman told Elle India about his new brand.

“It is the outcome of my design philosophy and a culmination of many ideas that have built up over the past year. I also felt the need to explore and contemporise India’s vast wealth of textile techniques and perhaps reinvent their design language to suit a global aesthetic.”

The brand recently launched with multi-brand luxury Indian fashion retailers Ogaan and Ensemble in their respective boutiques, Alamelu announced on its Facebook page.

“Our next steps will include international expansion through e-commerce and retail presence in strategic global locations,” said Radharaman.
