The Maharashtra FDA has ordered Johnson & Johnson to stop retailing its talcum powder and to recall it, ET Bureau reported. The business’ manufacturing licence for ‘Johnson’s Baby Powder’ made by the companies J&J Private Limited factory in Mulund is now officially cancelled.

“The use of a product with higher pH could affect the skin of young babies and ultimately their health,” said a senior FDA official as reported by TNN. The official noted that Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder is a popular product, especially with parents who use it with newborn babies thus many people could be at risk by using it.

Johnson & Johnson has one manufacturing plant in Maharashtra, located in Mulund. The business has faced protests against its talcum powder products in India and abroad, most notably in the US where a group of women have accused the business of retailing talcum powder containing asbestos which they believe has caused multiple cases of ovarian cancer.
