John Richmond back in business with e-shop and capsule collection launch

So dark, so leather, so rock n' roll: John Richmond's new collection goes back to the roots of the label founded in 1987 by the eponymous British designer, now returning to the fashion scene after a one-year absence.

John Richmond has relaunched his label in style at the Milan Fashion Week, with an event-concert in which he starred on guitar alongside British indie rock band Smoke Fairies, while pictures by his photographer/rockstar friend Bryan Adams rolled in the background.

"I'm very happy to be back with a collection which is very John Richmond. I think it's exactly what people were expecting from me. I designed it in January and it's already on sale on the label's recently launched e-shop. I didn't want to wait until September! About ten leading stores, among them Luisa Via Roma and Traffic LA, have already ordered it," the designer told FashionNetwork.

The capsule collection features 20 women's items and as many for men's, most of them signature John Richmond pieces: a studded leather Perfecto jacket, coated-denim jeans, tee-shirts, a Teddy boy jacket decorated with a twin-angels patch and the 'Punk Angels' slogan, a black, rocker-style shirt, a biker jacket with tattoo designs and a tunic dress glittering with miniature crystals.

"I'm planning to launch a new collection in June, and in September I'll be back in Milan to show my main men's and women's collections. I have showed in this city for 17 years, it's my second home," added the designer, whose label was recently bought by Italian private equity firm Blue Skye Investment Group, specialised in the relaunch of high-end assets in difficulties.

John Richmond is produced and distributed by Italian group Arav Fashion, owner of the Silvian Heach womenswear label. "It is an industrial partnership, the only one of this type for our group, which otherwise manages its own labels. The John Richmond line is positioned in the contemporary luxury segment," said Arav Fashion's General Manager Mena Marano.

"The distribution strategy will be very selective, via local agents and showrooms, such as Studio Zeta in Milan or Fashion Club 70 in Benelux," she added.

The group intends to open a John Richmond store in Milan by 2018, "to guarantee the right amount of visibility to the project." Retail prices range from €150 for a tee-shirt to €2,000 for a top and, according to Marano, "the initial feedback is highly positive."
