Jaypore’s new online showcase as part of its ‘Artisan Direct’ initiative shines the spotlight on two traditional crafts from Bengal: Madurkathi weaving and leather-craft. A curated selection of products now features on a dedicated section of Jaypore’s e-commerce store to promote the traditional crafts online.

“This time, in the third phase of Artisan Direct: National Edition, a first-of-its-kind online exhibition to support local artisans, Jaypore and Creative Dignity bring to you crafts from the state of West Bengal,” Jaypore announced on Facebook.

“We present a cohort of master artisans and their marvellous crafts, from the finest weaves to the most intricate virtuosity, handcrafted using a rich variety of ingenious methods and materials.”

The leather-craft showcase by Amar Kutir Society features a selection of handbags, wallets, and pouches made with intricately embossed designs and brightly coloured motifs. The Amar Kutir Society has trained over 1,300 artisans in the art of colouring leather with vegetable dyes and painting it with detailed designs.

A second showcase features handwoven Madurkathi by award winning artisan Ashok Jana and his workshop of 80 artisans. The hand woven, naturally dyed mats, locally called Masland, have been crafted into pouches, bags, homeware, and accessories for Jaypore’s online showcase.
