On January 18 and 19, Jaypore teamed up with designer and scholar Rta Kapur Chishti for a saree draping workshop at the Jaypore store in Indiranagar, Bengaluru.
Jaypore, which started off as an online apparel and crafts store in 2012, has been steadily embracing an omni-channel strategy and expanding offline. As part of this, the brand chose to highlight its vast saree selection with an offline event at its Bengaluru store.
Rta Kapur Chishti, who founded the label TaanBaan and is a scholar and author, regularly holds saree draping workshops to celebrate and promote the garment’s place in Indian culture. Chishti took her concept to Jaypore’s store to engage with the brand’s customers and showcase her draping knowledge with Jaypore sarees for an immersive retail experience.
“The versatility of the sari is based on multiple cultural influences,” Chishti told Vogue India about her event concept. “So, the idea of The Sari School was to introduce the basics or Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti, so that everybody could reinvent it for their own level of comfort, fabric and occasion.”
Through Chrishti’s encyclopaedic knowledge on saree drapes and philosophy that everyone should personalise how they drape their saree to reflect their personality, Jaypore tapped into the rising popularity of handloom textiles and traditional wear amongst India’s millennials.
