Jatin Malik Couture showcases collection in Milan
The Delhi-based menswear designer Jatin Malik showcased a collection at Via Emilio Gola in Milan, Italy, as part of Emerging Talents Milan on June 15. Malik was the only Indian designer to take part in the fashion showcase.
Malik showed a collection that used zardozi and aari embroidery techniques reimagined with a baroque spin. “The story behind the collection is a fluid movement from the regal history of India to the novelty of the European era and the present-day global fashion movements,” read the brand’s press release. Traditional wear classics such as sherwanis and achkans featured metallic detailing and cut a regal silhouette on the runway.
“For Milan... the focus is to highlight the talent of the Indian craftsmen on a global platform,” said Malik.
“It was in this endeavour that we created the concept of depicting the baroque designs through the artistic sensibilities of the Indian craftsmen.”
Emerging Talents Milan has run since 2016 and selected and promotes around 50 international brands from over 17 countries. Malik joined brands including Inkover Fashion from Italy to take part in the event which, as an independent event, ran in conjunction with Milan Fashion Week which took place from June 14 to 17.
