ITC Ltd to produce sanitisers at its perfume manufacturing plant
ITC Ltd has converted its perfume plant in Himachal Pradesh to produce sanitizers under its personal care brand Savlon to help the country fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
The company had started the manufacturing facility in November last year to product premium fragrances. However, amid the coronavirus crisis, it has suspended production to focus on essential items like sanitizers and other hygiene products.
Commenting on the initiative, Sameer Satpathy, chief executive officer personal care products at ITC Ltd in a statement said: “This initiative reinforces our efforts to enable enhanced production and supply of Savlon range of hygiene products in the market, which is the need of the hour to help fight the virus and contain its spread.”
"Amidst the global health crisis and the unprecedented surge in demand for hand hygiene products like sanitisers, ITC, on a war footing, repurposed this world class perfume facility to help produce an additional 1.25 lakh litres of Savlon hand sanitisers. This intervention will enable ITC to meet the demand surge for sanitisers in the market," he added.
ITC had earlier set up a contingency fund of Rs 150 crore ($21.3 million) to provide relief to the vulnerable and most needy sections of society who have been harshly impacted by the pandemic.
