Italy's Aeffe gives mandate to sell shoe unit

MILAN, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Italian luxury group Aeffe (AEF.MI) has mandated Mediobanca (MDBI.MI) to sell its shoe unit Pollini, two sources close to the matter told Reuters.

"Aeffe has put Pollini up for sale and has mandated Mediobanca for it," one of the sources said on condition of anonymity.

A spokeswoman for Aeffe said there was no mandate for the sale of Pollini.

"There is, however, a mandate to look into possible opportunities for production agreements using the Pollini platform," she said.

Aeffe, whose brands include Alberta Ferretti, Moschino and J.P. Gaultier, posted a net loss of 10 million euros in the first half the year, from a profit of 6 million euros a year earlier, weighed down by Pollini.

Aeffe's revenus were 297 million euros in 2008, of which 51 million euros were generated by Pollini.
