Turkish denim label Isko has become the first denim mill in the world to have received EU Ecolabel certification for its Earth Fit platform dedicated to sustainability. The Isko EU Ecolabel products will be launched in May 2017. EU Ecolabel is the official environmental label in the European Union, based on a commitment to environmental sustainability.

“Being conscientious comes from research, attention, deep commitment and pointed awareness about what is happening to our planet,” said Fatih Konukoglu, CEO of Isko division and board member of Sanko Group at its headquarters in Turkey.

“Here in Isko, to produce means to care: care about people, environment and products. This firm belief is the heart of our nurturing approach. We believe in the future, that is why we continue to invest in protecting our planet”, said Anita Winsnes, managing director of Ecolabelling Norway. “It is great that the world’s biggest denim manufacturer shows such a commitment to sustainability. If we are going to succeed with the necessary green shift in our global economy, it is important that companies like Isko clear the way. When giants take steps towards more sustainability, the impacts are huge,” added Winsnes.

Last year, Isko Earth fit line had bagged recognition of Nordic Swan Ecolabel for its innovative approach. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is the official Ecolabel in the Nordic countries and was created with the purpose of providing an environmental labeling scheme that would contribute to sustainable consumption.
