Intexpo Bangladesh 2016 begins in Dhaka

A two-day Indian textile exhibition, Intexpo Bangladesh is taking place in in Dhaka this week. The event hopes to tap the growing business potential in the country, particularly in regards to man-made fibers (MMF) textiles.

The Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) of India in association with the Indian High Commission in Dhaka is organizing the expo.

The expo is also backed by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI) are supporting the expo.

"India exported MMF textiles worth $ 134.05 million in 2010-11 fiscal which now stood at $ 397.76 million in 2015-16 fiscal showing a growing demand for such products," said Srijib Roy, additional director of SRTEPC, at a press conference in Dhaka.

Bangladesh is the second largest exporter of garments while India is the second and third largest producer of polyester and viscose filament yarn and cotton and viscose staple fibre, he noted.

"Labour cost, market access to the EU and the US are among the advantages of Bangladesh and we want to leverage this opportunity," Vice Chairman of SRTEPC Shri Srinarain Aggarwal said.

The expo is intended to provide a unique opportunity to the textile and garment business fraternity of Bangladesh to see the quality and range of Indian fabrics and yarns for establishing personal contacts for mutually beneficial business tie ups, including possibility of having long term venture alliance with their Indian counterparts, he added.

A total 30 leading Indian manufacturing and exporting companies are displaying their latest range of textile items such as suiting, shirting’s, dress materials, embroidered fabrics, high fashion fabrics, furnishings, home textiles, made-ups like scares, stoles, shawls, laces, synthetic and blended yarns, fibres and garments etc. in the expo.

Ahead of the expo, SRTEPC had said the main objectives of the expo were to provide opportunities to Indian exporters to meet prospective buyers/agents to generate business enquiries, help existing exporters to this market to further expand their contacts and give opportunities to new exporters to establish trade contacts with their prospective customers/ buyers and increase awareness about Indian capabilities to facilitate further expansion in trade with Bangladesh.
