A group of Indian fashion designers took part in the International SME Convention’s Khadi fashion show including Rohit Bal, Anju Modi, Payal Jain (of Adaya by Payal Jain), and Poonam Bhagat who are all well known for their use of Khadi textiles. “I am very proud of my roots and textile heritage and it’s my constant endeavour to work with Indian textiles and crafts, many of which are on the verge of extinction,” said Jain at the event.

The fashion show was a collaboration between the Khadi Village and Industries Commission (KVIC) and the SME Convention 2018, hosted by Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). The aim was to promote the use of Khadi in fashion as part of the Union Government’s “Make in India” campaign which has rolled out numerous initiatives to promote the weave including making it GST exempt and pairing with big businesses to encourage distribution.

The event was supported by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, the World Entrepreneur Development Organisation, Matrade, and the World Union of Small and Medium Enterprises.
