Jaipur-based brand Injiri has deepened its relationships with traditional weavers with new womenswear collection ‘Taan Baan’ which features craft techniques from across India.

For its latest launch, Injiri strengthened its ties with a group of Khatri weavers to create a range of garments using the clamp dyeing technique, the brand announced on Facebook. The collection also features organic cotton woven with ‘extra-weft’ techniques from Bhujodi in Gujarat and West Bengal’s Jamdani weaves.

“The key thought has been to sustain relationships with the same weavers over the years,” said the brand’s founder Chinar Farooqui, Elle India reported.

“The three crafts are pillars of what Injiri stands for. We have been working with all three for the last ten years and it is very important for us to provide work to these weavers and standing by the technique every season helps in doing so.”

Injiri’s latest collection is a riot of colour with a palette of punks, greens, and yellows, as well as whites. The collection has relaxed silhouettes and minimal embellishments to keep the focus on its handcrafted textiles.

Chinar Farooqui launched Injiri in 2009 to celebrate India’s indigenous textiles and craft techniques. The brand’s name ‘Injiri’ refers to the 18th-century Nigerian term used to describe the Madras plaid fabric imported from South India and the term means ‘from India’.
