The company has been given a license to sell household and beauty products among others for a period of 5 years. The company has paid the Indian railways a sum of Rs 3.5 crore for the same.

With this move, Indian railways just like some flights will be selling products on board from January 2019. The shopping service will be introduced in Indian trains in a phased manner and in the first phase, the service will be launched in two trains.

“Mumbai division of Western Railway has awarded the contract for on board shopping for passengers in 16 mail and express trains for a period of five years to a private player who will have the license to sell household products and beauty products among others,” a senior railway ministry official told PTI.

"A catalogue will be circulated among passengers from which they can choose what they want to buy when the cart circulates. We have prohibited any loud promotional activity for the sale of such goods," the official added.

The company will depute its own staff to sell the products and will also allow passengers to buy the products using debit and credit cards.
