The new portal is expected to boost the MSME sector and help create employment opportunities across the country. Many MSMEs are fashion, accessories, and textile businesses and a dedicated government e-commerce for these businesses is expected to increase MSME exports in the sector.

"We have decided to launch a portal for the promotion of MSME. We have also talked to GeM (Government e-Market place) and I have also discussed with Piyush Goyal (Commerce and Industry Minister). We are launching a new portal for MSME. It will be launched in a month," MSME Minister Nitin Gadkari said in the Lok Sabha.

Like what Alibaba has done to China's growth and Amazon in the US, India has also decided to have a portal dedicated to the MSME sector, he said.

He further said the government has taken several steps to promote MSME sector including 2 percent interest subvention provided they have Udyog Aadhaar Number (UAN) and GST registration.

The government continues to promote an increase in domestic production in the textiles, footwear, and handcrafted apparel sectors in particular and has also undertaken several programmes to promote small-scale textiles and apparel manufacturers and businesses.
