The Nepal Gem and Jewellery council will kick off its International Gem and Jewellery Expo in Nepal’s capital on Friday to promote Nepalese gems to international import businesses. The expo is part of a Nepali Government initiative to promote the country as a destination for the international jewellery industry as well as a country with rich raw materials. The event is co-organised by the Nepali Government and the Federation of Nepal Gold, Silver, Gem, and Jewellery Associations.

The business to business trade show will feature representatives from Nepal, India, China, Thailand, Japan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. A number of Indian import businesses will attend to network with Nepali gem exporters. As well as business stalls, the event will also feature gem cutting demonstrations, a business networking seminar, and an educational exhibition from the Gemological Institute of America.

"The expo will reveal and promote Nepal’s indigenous gem and jewellery designs, its originality, its specialisation on gem and jewellery for centuries and potentiality of its craftsmanship to the world,” read the event’s website. The government event is supported by the Nepal Trade and Export Promotion Centre, Federations of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nepal Chamber of Commerce, and Confederation of Nepalese Industries.
