The Khadi Board will be responsible for setting up the mall and the final completion of the entire project is expected to take some years.

Khadi, a traditional hand-spun textile, is gaining popularity across the country and government’s Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is launching various initiatives to further widen the reach of Khadi.

KVIC has exclusive outlets across the country selling khadi products and its first exclusive mall is expected to further popularize khadi and generate employment in the rural areas of the state.

"Within 15 days, land in the Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) campus will be made available to the Khadi Board to develop the country's first Khadi mall," CM Das was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

"People in the villages are talented and so far 1.13 lakh artisans have been registered to be trained to make goods as per the needs of the market. It will bring changes in their lives and the government will also provide markets to them," he added.
