India is in the top 10 markets for the Cotton Council International’s trademark cotton “Cotton USA” and the organisation expects Indian cotton imports from the US to continue to grow year-on-year.
The National Cotton Council of America’s export promotion entity the CCI, which has promoted US cotton in 50 countries internationally for over 60 years, counts India as one of its top 10 markets, the CCI’s India representative Peush Narang told Images Business of Fashion in an interview. Narang also expects that the Indian market will continue to grow each year for the foreseeable future.
The CCI aims to make its US cotton the preferred textile fibre for global cotton products. As part of its promotional work in India, the organisation works with over 35 licensee mills which buy US cotton.
The CCI also spoke at the recent India Fashion Forum in Mumbai in late March on its goals for exports to India. Narang said that the organisation showcased its “US Cotton Trust Protocol” at the event including its aim of ensuring more environmentally friendly cotton production by 2025. As more and more clothing brands are valuing sustainable production methods in India, these environmental targets could help it secure more business in the country.
