India Craft Week to showcase artisan brands in New Delhi

India Craft Week will run from December 4 to 8 at GMR Aerocity in New Delhi to promote India’s artisan crafts and products with an exhibition, workshops, symposiums, and installations.

The craft week will showcase a range of handmade and handcrafted fashion brands in the capital.

Anahata India will showcase its metal filigree gift items and accessories such as gilded clutch bags and sculptures. Kokor will showcase its collection of glass jewellery by Mexican designer Cindy Mijares and Accessories by Nupur will present a selection of hand-embroidered clutch bags, shawls, jewellery, and accessories. Aadyam Handwoven will present textiles and homeware, Hutk will showcase hand-painted clothing and folk paintings, and Ekum will showcase its sustainably sourced womenswear.

The event will also feature a number of interactive workshops including with the renowned Bidri metalwork artisan Shah Rasheed Ahmed Quadri who has received a National Award for his work. Other workshops will be held on Phad painting, Kalamkari painting, shadow puppetry, and ply-split braiding among others.  

The event’s Craft Rare initiative aims to educate on and preserve crafts in India that currently sit on the brink of extinction. A group of artisans who are masters of these crafts have been selected to showcase their work and raise awareness of their practices. Crafts that will be showcased include bagru printing, pashmina making, Dhokra, Phulkari, Ikat, Rogan, Warli, and wood inlay among others. 

The event’s luxury partner is the cement art brand Craft Beton. The event will feature an installation to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic pollution and cultural entertainment will also feature.
