On November 9, a group of Chinese jewellery manufacturers met with around 65 gem and jewellery exporters from Northern India to discuss trade opportunities, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council reported on its website. The business-to-business meet took place at the Hotel Le Meridien and was organised by the India-China Trade Centre.

The Chinese businesses, which are primarily focused on silver and costume jewellery manufacturing, visited India to meet “matching” businesses in the country, the GJEPC said. The chairman of the GJEPC, Pramod Kumar Agrawal addressed the participants at the meet and gave an overview of the Indian gems and jewellery industry to the Chinese participants. Agrawal also spoke about the GJEPC’s recent visit to China to attend the 2nd China International Import Expo and the memorandum of understanding signed at the trade show.

Agrawal encouraged the Chinese jewellery manufacturers to set up factories in India and promised the co-operation of the GJEPC should they choose to do so. Other GJEPC members who attended the event included executive director Sabyasachi Ray, director K.K. Duggal, and North regional chairman Ashok Seth.
