Ikea to open its global operations office in India

Ikea is betting big on the Indian market, as it sees huge potential for growth and expects the move of opening its global office in the country, to streamline operations and diversify its overall digital footprint.

The availability of a large talent pool in India was also one of the key reasons for selecting the global office.

“India now joins our network of strong locations situated at strategic parts of the world with the establishment of the GBO. India is not only a growing retail destination for us but also one of the strongest markets when it comes to global business operations capabilities. With this initiative, we have long-term plans to expand over time,” in a statement said Lalitha Indrakanti, head of global business operations, at Ingka Group, which operates Ikea retail globally.

The world’s biggest furniture brand, which launched in India in 2018, has invested more than $1.7 billion in the country, betting on its burgeoning middle class.

Ikea aims to reach 100 million Indian customers in the next few years through their multichannel approach and plans to open small-format city centre stores to expand its presence in the country.
