Ikea to launch e-commerce operations in India next year

Swedish home furnishings retailer Ikea will be entering the country’s online furniture market with the launch of its e-commerce operations by March next year.

Ikea which recently held a ground-breaking ceremony for its store in Bengaluru also aims to be profitable in India in the coming years.
 
“Ikea will create a multichannel experience for its customers in India. It will launch ecommerce in Mumbai early next summer (March) and introduce other touch points to bring the brand closer to customers,” Ikea India Chief Executive Officer Peter Betzel told PTI.

“Ikea is looking at the total integration of both platforms. The company is expecting a high number of online orders in the coming days. We are aiming at profitability in coming years,” he added.
 
Talking about the Bengaluru store, Betzel said, “The 5, 00,000 square-feet store will be opened in summer 2020 and expected to attract more than 7 million visitors per year”.
 
Ikea will be opening its next store in Mumbai later this year followed by stores in Delhi and Bengaluru. It has earmarked an investment of around Rs 3,000 crore (approx $406.7 million) to expand its retail network in the coming years.
