Ikea will be opening three flagship stores in India next year, one in Hyderabad, one in Mumbai, and one in Bengaluru, and Ikea plans to open 25 stores in the country by 2030. Each store will stock the same Ikea products that are available overseas but a new line will also be launched of products specifically designed to fit the Indian lifestyle.

After conducting around 800 home visits over the last two years, Ikea decided to make certain product for their Indian stores that are not available in other countries’ stores. For example, Ikea’s new store will sell idli makers, chapatti pans, spice containers, pressure cookers, and stainless steel kitchen items. Over 9,000 products are available in Ikea’s global range such as furniture, furnishings, and various homeware items and these will also be available in Indian stores.

Ikea is well known for furniture you have to assemble yourself at home and, after conducting the home visits, Ikea has decided to also offer an assembly service for customers who require assistance. A home delivery service and an e-commerce site will also be set up. The stores will all have restaurants like their European counterparts and Ikea aims to hire between 500 and 700 personnel to work in their stores along with around 1,500 staff for home delivery.
