Ikea India temporarily shuts Hyderabad store as Covid-19 cases rise again

​Ikea, the Swedish home furnishing major, has temporarily shut its only retail facility in India at Hyderabad from Saturday amid a surge in coronavirus cases in the country.
 

The company had reopened its Hyderabad store from June 8 by following the necessary safety measure after a two-month long shutdown due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the country and subsequent lockdowns.
 
However, with Covid-19 cases rising in India after lifting of the lockdown, Ikea has decided to close down its stores to implement additional safety measures.

"In light of the current Covid-19 situation, we are temporarily closing Ikea Hyderabad store to implement additional safety measures,” Ikea India said in a statement.
 
"In the light of the current Covid-19 situation and to strengthen the safety and well-being of our customers and co-workers, we want to take all our experiences and learning during the last weeks to further build a safer and even better shopping experience in our store,” it added.
 
Ikea will continue with its online services in the country and offer its newly introduced 'click-and-collect', a safe and contactless shopping experience for free to boost its online sales.
