This season’s INIFD GenNext showcase offered a range of modern, innovative, and wearable takes on traditional Indian dressing. Aseem Kapoor presented embellished, loose layers in rich crimsons and tactile neutrals, evoking the spirit of Rajasthan. Tassels, beading, and layered jewellery mixed with kaftans, long-line waistcoats, and loose trousers for a luxury take on bohemian dressing.

Somya Goyal played with texture and tailoring for her womenswear collection which mixed boxy jackets with streamlined dresses for a modern yet craft-oriented aesthetic. Stoiqur presented a collection of loose, abstract shapes with bold, monochrome designs and striped details.

Til showcased rich turmeric hued clothing, and models wore turmeric paste on their cheeks, paired with Japanese inspired platform shoes and high buns. Floaty layers contrasted with embroidered panels and tailored pieces mixed with more casual shapes for a wearable yet striking aesthetic. Finally, Re- showcased metallic sarees, structured blouses, and sheer over-layers to add a modern touch to a classic silhouette.

An initiative of the INIFD, the GenNext showcase aims to give innovative young designers a platform from which to promote and expand their up-and-coming brands. The INIFD has a number of fashion education campuses in cities including Ahmedabad, Indore, and Pune among others.

Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with the FDCI runs from October 12 to 16 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The fashion week features both physical runway shows and live digital broadcasting to offer a phygital experience.
