A group of GJEPC officials were joined by the government director of the Department of Commerce R Arulanandan to inaugurate IGJS Jaipur on Tuesday. Representatives from the US, UK, Middle East, CIS, Ocenia, Africa, Asia, and Latin America have traveled to the trade show with the aim of increasing their jewellery imports from India, according to the GJEPC.

“I’m glad to be part of the first edition of IGJS in Jaipur,” said Arulanandan at the inauguration, the GJEPC reported on its website. “The government and ministry’s role has moved from controllers to facilitators. GJEPC is the main link between the export community and the government; we address the issues of the trade together. GJEPC is one of the most organised and efficient councils and the gem and jewellery sector is dear to us. It employs 5 million people, and contributes 10% of the country’s total exports.”

The trade show, which runs from May 10 to 12 at the Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre, has registered over 600 international trade visitors from 48 countries. The exhibition features gold jewellery, diamonds and gemstones, and silver jewellery among other product categories.

“IGJS Jaipur is a classic example of the government’s campaign to ‘Make in India for the world’, and the show will boost our efforts to reach $75 billion in exports in the next few years,” said GJEPC chairman Colin Shah at the opening. “The mystique of Jaipur will make this international show a success. Nothing beats the physical meet-and-greet interaction of a show. I thank the Ministry of Commerce for ironing out all issues.”

Following IGJS Jaipur, the trade show will hold editions in New York, US in August followed by an edition of IGJS in Dubai this November and  another edition in Jaipur in February, 2023. “IGJS will turn out to be the show for the future,” said Shah.
